Understanding the Two Types of Lag

Before the fixes, it helps to know which type of lag you're dealing with:

Fix 1: Stop Using Screen Sharing

If you're using Zoom, FaceTime, Discord Go Live, or Google Meet to "share" a video — you're not syncing, you're broadcasting a live stream of your screen. This introduces 500ms–2s+ of inherent latency that cannot be reduced.

Fix 2: Use a Wired Connection

Fix 4: Choose the Right Video Quality

Counter-intuitive but important: higher quality = more buffering risk. A 4K YouTube stream demands ~20 Mbps sustained. 1080p demands ~8 Mbps. 720p demands ~4 Mbps.

If your connection is under 20 Mbps or shared with others, set video quality to 1080p or 720p before starting. A slightly lower resolution that plays without buffering beats 4K that buffers every 30 seconds.
